Early in my employment, I was a teacher, first of high school English in the Governor Mifflin School District and then of Special Education in the Reading School District.
In 1982, after having passed the CPA exam, I began my career with Met-Ed as an entry level accountant in Internal Controls. Over the next eight years, I progressed through supervisory and management positions in Financial Reporting and Regulatory Accounting to the role of Assistant Controller in 1990.
In 1992, I moved out of Met-Ed's financial field and into operations as the Regional Director for the Eastern portion of the service territory. It was in this role that I learned the operations and customer service sides of the business.
In 1994, when Met-Ed was combined with Pennsylvania Electric Company, I moved into the role of Vice President of Public Affairs for these two Pennsylvania subsidiaries of GPU, with responsibility for internal and external communications, charitable contributions and state governmental affairs. In 1996, GPU's New Jersey subsidiary, Jersey Central Power and Light, was added to my portfolio.
In 1998, I was promoted to the role of Senior Vice President at GPU in Morristown, New Jersey. My responsibilities included human resources, communications and corporate affairs. I served as the liaison to the GPU Board of Directors in the areas of compensation and corporate responsibility. During this time, I also served on the boards of GPU's electric and gas subsidiaries in the United Kingdom and Australia, and on the board of MYR, a subsidiary dealing in transmission line construction and maintenance.
In 2001, following the merger of GPU and FirstEnergy, I served as FirstEnergy Senior Vice President with responsibility for human resources, communications, community affairs, real estate, corporate secretary and administrative services. I retired from FirstEnergy in 2007.
